The Amazing Spiderman 2

The Amazing Spiderman 2

Predicted Rating: 4 Stars

Directed by: Marc Webb. Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan

Following the death of his uncle, Peter Parker (Garfield) is looking for answers into the disappearance of his parents. Meanwhile he is also juggling with keeping a promise with Gwen Stacy's (Stone) father and being Spiderman. His existence is then tested when the new villain Electro (Foxx) appears on the scene.

I do applaud how well this franchise has come back from almost complete destruction. It is safe to say that Spiderman 3 was quite terrible. Well it is not the worst movie I have seen but it was so disappointing because Spiderman 2 was so good. You know it is going to be bad when Spiderman doesn't turn up for a full 40 minutes and it is more about Mary-Jane's failing Broadway career than Spiderman fighting four villians. That's right, not just one, but four! I am not willing to compare this comeback to the Batman series as Batman and Robin is one of the worst movies ever made whilst The Dark Knight is one of the best but Spiderman is well on its way. I think the common denominator between the two series is the introduction of too many characters in the same film, something The Amazing Spiderman does not do.

I think the success to a good super hero film is in its villains as opposed to its heroes. Again back to the Batman series, The Dark Knight is so highly regarded because of the performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker, whilst any criticism towards the Dark Knight rises is towards Bane. I think the reason why I liked
The Amazing Spiderman 2 was due to its villians. Jamie Foxx does a great job as Electro whilst Dane DeHaan is absolutely fantastic as the Green Goblin. In the end all of this is leading up to the Sinister Six in part 4. In this version the team is organized by the Green Goblin and looks to include The Vulture, Rhino, and Doc Oc, as well as the possibility of bringing back the Lizard and Electro. All I can say is that I am pretty excited about the next two films.

Why can't everyone just get along? How awesome would the film be if all of the Marvel characters worked together. That is a film featuring The Avengers, The X-Men, Spiderman and the Fantastic Four. However, they are all owned by different studios so this will never happen. One thing I did find interesting was that the end of credits nugget here was something from the upcoming X-Men film. Does this mean that we are getting an X-Men/Spiderman crossover? I highly doubt it but we can all dream.

I think my favourite thing about this film was the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. I mean this is to be expected as they are actually banging but it really made the film enjoyable. I am trying to think of any other films where the two main actors are in a relationship both on and off the screen but I can't think of any so I am going to say this is breaking new ground.

Overall: This is a great film that is very well shot and just leaves me wanting more. 5 Stars
